Local soccer team celebrates another victorious win

The Mashishing Football Club (MFC) once again defeated their opponents with a victorious win of 5-1 over the Kadisha Warriors at the Mashakeng Stadium where the battle for the Nedbank Cup continued this past weekend.

The local soccer boys kicked off the season with great enthusiasm and it was clear that they were hungry for another win. Despite the terrible field conditions, they managed to score the first goal early in the game. The ball flew for the second time into the net and the players managed to get a good head start of 2-0 just before the whistle blew for half-time. The MFC came back with even more fire in them than in the first half and managed to score three more goals.

Throughout the game, spectators held their breath, not only when the opponents attacked the goal posts, but also when players hit the ground hard due to an uneven pitch. “Serious injuries can happen here and it is not a safe terrain to practise on anymore,” said sports manager, Pack Hyalunga. According to Hyalungu, everyone practises on the same field due to the fact that there are no other facilities to do so. “Everyone plays here and it is now killing our stadium,” he said.

“Participating in sports is such crucial component in young people’s lives, especially when they live in a township. When they are here we know they are safe from drug, alcohol and sexual abuse, but having such bad field conditions opposes dangers to the players,” he said. The Mashishing Football Club recently started playing in the Castle League and already added several wins to their statistics. “We belief in their dynamic spirit and will to achieve and that it can still bring them far. We just hope someone will help us make their dreams come true by contributing to the state of the field,”said Hyalangu. According to him, and photos in the possesion of Steelburger/Lydenburg News, the field was once in an exceptionally good condition, a field to be proud of, but is now so bad that it almost look like nothing but a sand pit.
