Life savers of the Lowveld
The Mbombela branch of South African National Blood Services (SANBS) honoured 220 milestone blood donors at their annual awards function, held at Umbali.

Old friends mixed with new ones at this year’s awards evening as the blood donors moved up the donor ladder, from Club 50 to Club 100, and all the way up to Club 225.
This number signifies their donor milestone and the associated medal they receive for their loyalty and commitment.
The group honored at this year’s function had collectively donated 15 000 units of blood over their donor lifespan. This translates to in excess of 40 000 blood products.
One unit of blood can save up to three lives, so roughly speaking the group collectively could have potentially saved as many as 45 000 lives.
