Little Miss Barberton is crowned

Roheinne Noble, event organiser said this was the first Little Miss Barberton and they were planning to do it annually.

Cathyville Community Hall was the place to be on Saturday afternoon as the town’s beautiful girls contested for the inaugural 2015 Little Miss Barberton.

Stacey Thompson (10), who, like many of her competitors, has never been in a pageant before, came out on top and was crowned as 2015’s Little Miss Barberton. Chante Jaftha (11) was voted as the first princess while Mimah Parmisser (8) was second princess.

Stacey, a grade four pupil at Mountainview Primary School, said she was encouraged by her mother to enter the competition. Her dreams will not end with 2015 Little Miss Barberton.

“I will continue to enter beauty pageant competitions and also do some modelling. I hope to pursue a doctor’s qualification when I complete matric,” said Thompson.

She edged out nine other girls to take the title. Parents, family members and supporters showed up to cheer on their favourite contestants. The entrants rehearsed for two weeks (on Tuesdays and Wednesdays) in preparation for the grand finale.

Roheinne Noble, event organiser said this was the first Little Miss Barberton and they were planning to do it annually.
“It was wonderful to see young people engaged in positive activities like this. The purpose is to prepare contestants for the modelling world, boost their self-esteem and have self-respect,” said Noble.

The judges included Sarina Saley and Roslyl Parsons.
Meanwhile, Blanche Charles and Sthembile Nkosi were chosen as Little Miss’s Photogenic during the same event.
The organisers thanked Umjindi Municipality for providing them the hall for free and Pick n Pay for sponsoring prizes.
