Fun on the greens benefits local community projects
A raffle was held after the braai for a fully paid weekend family holiday at Hazyview Cabanas and the prize was won by Chris Seward.

On a blistering hot Lowveld morning, golfers packed in ice-cold water bottles and set off for 18 holes of action-packed golf during the Barberton Methodist Church Golf Day.
This was the first Methodist golf day in many years and was played in four-ball alliance format. Barberton Golf Club had 16 league players from Barberton and Nelspruit competing, totalling 61 participants.
The event included first, second and third prizes and the longest drive at the eighth, closest to the pin at the third and ninth, and the “longest day” men and women were awarded too.
Eighteen holes later, the golfers returned for a wild-pig spit braai, prepared by master chef Clarence Hobbs and salads prepared by the women of the church.
The prize-giving was conducted by Vicus Reed and the prizes handed out by the minister of the church Sheila Richards. The winners were Eugene Reyneke and Etienne Herbst, with 47 points, followed closely by George Jenkins and Werner Swanepoel, with 46 points and Blackie Swart and Willie Chilouna, also on 46.
Stephen Lea obtained the longest-drive prize, Wille Chilouna the closest to the pin at the third and Justin Hearn the closest to the pin at the ninth hole.
The “longest day” men went to George Smith and Frank Pontac and the women’s to Sherry van Zyl and Roma Smith.
The day was well sponsored and thanks go out to the many sponsors who showed their support.
Task Motors was the main sponsor and others included Westvaal, NTT Toyota, Barberton Ford, Chop Chop Butchers, Bruce Robson Fencing, Karen Lea, Torque Drilling, Striving Mine, Applecon, DRA, Bentina and Makhushu Transport. Prizes were received from Game Store, Pick n Pay, Coastal Hire, KCS, MICA, Vivian Swann and Paul du Plooy. Special thanks to Keith Guthrie for the donation of the wild pig for the braai.
A raffle was held after the braai for a fully paid weekend family holiday at Hazyview Cabanas and the prize was won by Chris Seward. Thanks go to the Holiday Club for the generous donation of the holiday voucher.
The event, which is expected to have raised R25 000, was organised to raise funds to support outreach mission projects such as the food packing for the Barberton Christian Forum, the Umjindi Creche Feeding Scheme and other projects at the Barberton Methodist Church that provide support to needy families.
Many thanks go to the golf club, the manager Margaret Blount and her staff.
