Forum blesses those in need over Christmas
“These donations enable us to provide support to 14 families and organisations in and around Barberton on a regular basis,” Meerholz said.
“Thanks to the generosity of Barberton Mines, the Barberton Christian Forum (BCF) once again was able to bless 150 families with a Christmas food parcel each,” said chairman of the forum, Jenny Meerholz.
During the BCF annual Christmas soup kitchen, 125 families received a parcel made up of mealie meal, oil, long-life milk, soya mix, brown sugar, canned baked beans and pilchards, Drink-o-Pop, as well as tea.
Not only did the people receive nourishment in the form of soup and bread on the day, but also food for their souls from Past Louis Scheepers of the AFM who lead them in scripture reading and prayer. Two clowns and a dance group provided entertainment for the children, who also received balloons and sweets.
In the coloured area and township of Verulam, 25 other families were delighted when food hampers were delivered to them too.
“BCF is very grateful for the ongoing support we get from the community. We wish to thank everyone who donates old clothes and even household items they no longer use. Thank you to those who bring us soup on a regular basis and drop off 20 loaves of bread every week. Barberton Mines provides us with mealie meal, soup mix, cooldrink mix, et cetera on a monthly basis as well,” said Meerholz.
She said the BCF is very thankful for the financial support they receive from the NG Church and the Jock of the Bushveld Centre. She said BCF also receives a regular supply of soya mix from the Methodist Church and Pick n Pay donates its damaged and expired foodstuffs.
“These donations enable us to provide support to 14 families and organisations in and around Barberton on a regular basis,” Meerholz said.
The BCF welcomes any contributions of old clothes, household items or any other goods you can donate. Should you wish to make a contribution or want to get involved with the BCF, contact Jenny Meerholz on 082-315-5656.
The soup kitchen is run every Wednesday from 09:00 to 12:00 on the NG Church grounds.
