Organisation aims to reduce pet numbers

MALALANE – To reduce the number of unwanted and neglected pets in the area, Love 4 Claws has launched a spaying initiative in partnership with Malelane Animal Clinic.
The organisation aims to sterilise feral cats in the area. They are also willing to assist lower income households in sterilising their cats, after a thorough screening process.
Approximately one million cats are euthanised each year in the country due to an overpopulation at shelters. Pet owners are urged to make use of this initiative and to notify the organisation of feral cats in their area. Love 4 Claws consists of Patricia van der Westhuizen, Marcel Norris, Wilma Coetzer and Erika Geldenhuys. These four women have been taking in untamed kittens and have been trying to assist with sterilising them for the past two years. Two months ago the group decided that something definite had to be done about the growing number of wild cats in and around Malalane, and decided to partner with Malelane Animal Clinic for the sterilisation initiative.
The group has several rescued kittens up for adoption. The adoption fee of R450 includes deworming, inoculations and sterilisation at five to six months of age.
If you would like to support the organisation, you can drop spare change into the collection tins at Vetshop, Montego and Dirty Dogs or contact 073-098-1245.
They also have an account at Malelane Animal Clinic and donations are welcome. The funds are used to sterilise cats and feed kittens that are still on the bottle.
