Gallery: First day of school for the Lowveld’s grade 1s
It's the beginning of a wonderful journey into learning new things and acquiring new skills for these little ones as they start 'big school' today

Curro Nelspruit
Just over 100 grade ones started their school career at Curro Nelspruit this morning. It was all smiles, except for some of the parents who had sent their child off with a heavy heart.
St Peters School
St Peters School welcomed their new Grade one students with their annual tradition of each new student ringing the bell. The school has 70 Grade one students and four classes consisting of 20 to 19 learners.
Laerskool Bergland
Laerskool Bergland welcomed their new Grade one learners for 2018. The school welcomed about 130 grade one students. They have four classes, each class has about 30 learners in it.
Penryn College
Fifty one youngsters started their school career at the Penryn John Lees Foundation Phase this morning. “I am so excited for my little girl to start her school career,” said Nontobeko Mbatsane.
Nelspruit Primary
Five classes full of eager grade on learners were a hustle and a bustle at Nelspruit Primary School this morning as they settled down in their desks and got acquainted with their new teacher for the year. Amid a high demand for space and placement at the school, Nelspruit Primary is currently still trying to accommodate as many as possible new grade one learners.
Laerskool Laeveld
Laerskool Laeveld’s grade showed eagerness for the new academic year as they put their best foot forward trying to impress their new teacher. There were no tears, though a few shy faces a little bit scared to start big school.
Laerskool Witrivier
Vyf klasse vol graadeens is Woensdagoggend by Laerskool Witrivier verwelkom. In drie van die klasse word onderrig in Afrikaans gegee en in twee klasse in Engels.
Die jongklomp het reeds die vorige dag saam met hul ouers die skool besoek en gaan kyk het hoe hul klaskamers en nuwe juffrou lyk, en was dus glad nie meer vreemd nie.
Uplands Preparatory School
Uplands Preparatory School welcomed two classes of 23 pupils each for their first “big school” year. With the school celebrating 90 years’ of existence later this year, many of the newcomers follow in the footsteps of parents and other family members by attending Uplands Prep.
