Locals take great pride in keeping Lydenburg clean
"We have a team which cleans the bins every Wednesday. In collaboration with Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) we also clean their bins and also the three entrances to the town - from Dullstroom, Mbombela and Ohrigstad, and the parks in town," Van der Merwe explained.

LYDENBURG – The Pride cleaning campaign, initiated by the Lydenburg/Mashishing Business Chamber, is gaining momentum.
The project with the aim of keeping Lydenburg clean, started last year when Etli van der Merwe, chairman of the chamber, set the ball rolling.
The Pride campaign, in short for picking up our rubbish, restoring our beauty, investing in our future, doing it together and enjoying the results, is currently only concentrating on the town’s CBD.
For this purpose the businesses or the public can adopt a bin (drum) at R350, including branding for one year. The bins will be placed at the premises of the business which adopts it in an effort to clean the pavements.
“We have a team which cleans the bins every Wednesday. In collaboration with Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) we also clean their bins and also the three entrances to the town – from Dullstroom, Mbombela and Ohrigstad, and the parks in town,” Van der Merwe explained.
“We are liaising with the TCLM community service department to give them 20 bins to be placed at the entrances of the town and in parks. They will be converted into swivel bins which will be cemented to the ground.
“To support this we ask the community to donate cement towards the project. I am sure that in every household in town, a half or full bag of cement is lying somewhere in the garage. Please help us in our drive to keep Lydenburg clean.”
At the moment 30 drums are already set up all over the CBD.
The Pride project team cleaned the river alongside Buhrman Street last week and 80 black plastic bags of waste were collected.
