Nelspruit deputy sheriff shot and killed

A man reportedly shot at the deputy sheriff, her partner and a third person as they were walking to a nearby shop.

Nelspruit deputy sheriff Michelle Jones was killed and her partner critically injured in a shooting in Nelsville, Mbombela, last night.

It is believed that Jones, her partner and a third person were walking to a nearby shop in the area when a man shot at them at around 20:00.

The pair were rushed to hospital where Jones was pronounced dead and her partner reportedly remains in a critical condition.

A family member of Jones’ partner, who did not want to be named out of fear for their lives, confirmed the shooting, but added that further detailed information was prohibited based on the police’s advice.

The family member said the shooting was related to a house dispute; tragically, Jones died as a result of her wounds.

It was reported by the family member that the third person managed to flee and fears for their safety.
