Communio Church’s outreach programme supports the needy in Mbombela

The outreach programme helped more than 60 people who are struggling financially. They received some free clothes and medical check-ups.

The AFM Communio Church demonstrated what Christianity should be on Saturday May 4 with its city outreach programme for those in need.

The outreach saw people struggling financially receiving free clothes and medical check-ups. Held at the church premises, the event offered kids play activities, and the South African National Blood Services (SANBS) also took part.

According to one of the event’s organisers, Pr Leanie Erasmus, more than 60 people benefitted from the programme.

The main aim was to give back to the community, especially in the area in which they are operating. “The outreach was initiated by our church as part of community work, and our target was to reach the schools and other churches with people in need. Since the call to assist the needy, people from the Mbombela community have brought all the items that were donated. We had the Nelspruit Clinic also bring in their equipment and professional nurses to do some medical check-ups,” she said.

The plan is to make this programme an annual event.

Meanwhile, the SANBS managed to surpass its target, which will make a difference to those in need of blood. SANBS’s donor relations practitioner in Mbombela, Palesa Mazibuko, urged more people to donate blood. She explained that one’s body will always produce more, and that donors cannot run out of blood by donating. She also said the donation is not about race or gender, but about everyone living a healthy lifestyle. It only takes 15 to 20 minutes to save three lives.

Donors can visit The Grove Shopping Centre and i’langa Mall in Mbombela, the Lydenburg Donor Centre and Hazyview Junction, whichever is most convenient.
