Hazyview farm attack suspects appear in court

WHITE RIVER – Two suspects in the farm attack on a widow of Sabaan Farm near Hazyview appeared in court this week. Mr Morris Phikisang Nyalungu (38) and Mr Mandla Patrick Mahlangu (33) appeared in the local Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, facing charges of house robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The men were arrested the previous morning on the road between Sabie and Hazyview by the SAPS after farmers of the Sabie River Security Group apprehended the suspects on a bus. They had allegedly attacked and robber Ms Isabella Coetzer (59) on Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 06:30 on Monday, the men were seen boarding a bus. Members of the security group stopped the vehicle and the SAPS found three loaded firearms and the other personal belongings of the victim.

Nyalungu and Mahlangu were remanded in custody and the case was postponed to August 22, so that they could apply for legal aid.
