Vehicle theft causes concern in the city

Local community security organisation, Bossies Community Justice (BCJ) and security company Hi-Tech have expressed concern about the number of car robberies in the city in recent weeks.

According to Mr Jacques Meiring, he has responded to four cases since July.

Mr Vernon Lancaster of

Hi-Tech confirmed this.

The latest incident took place last Wednesday between 18:00 and 19:00 when a man was held at gunpoint in Skoenlapper Street by four suspects in a silver Passat. They left in the victim’s VW Polo.

Lancaster said the man and a friend followed the robbers towards KaNyamazane. The stolen vehicle was spotted by reaction officer Mr Braam Swanepoel in town and later recovered.

“It seems that robbers are targeting middle-range vehicles,” Lancaster said.

A Ford Figo, Corsa and Polo were among the latest vehicle thefts in the city.

They were stolen from residential areas including Hunter, Koedoe and Skoenlapper streets.

Three of the four stolen vehicles were recovered by the combined efforts of the SAPS and the local security companies.
