Robber shot dead on farm

A house robbery went awry for three suspects this Monday near the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.

WHITE RIVER – A man was shot and killed and another arrested on Monday after an attempted robbery on a farm in the vicinity of the KMIA.

According to Sgt Gerald Sedibe, spokesman for the SAPS, three men were interrupted during a burglary at the farmhouse by a family member of the owner at approximately 20:00. The Nelspruit Flying Squad, White River SAPS and J&M Security White River responded to the call.

According to Mr Shaun Terblanche from J&M, one of the suspects aimed a firearm at the family member, who shot and killed the suspect. Another suspect escaped and a third was found hiding under a bed in the house.

Capt Pieter Smit, commander of the Nelspruit Flying Squad was also on the scene and confirmed that the suspects had gained entry to the house through a broken window. An air rifle was found on the scene.

The same group may have been responsible for another robbery on an adjacent property earlier the same evening, Terblanche said.

Stolen goods consisting of electronics were recovered nearby in the veld. The suspect appeared in the magistrate’s court on Wednesday on two counts of housebreaking. Sedibe confirmed that the case was postponed to September 4 for a bail application.
