Victim hunts her rapist for five years

Rape, Mpumalanga, Nelspruit, Mr Roelf Smith, court, life sentence, perjury, magistrate regional court, sexual offences court

NELSPRUIT – Last week justice was served when a 24-year-old woman’s rapist was finally sentenced to life imprisonment. On the same day, a 16-year-old girl who falsely accused a man of raping her, received a five-year suspended sentence for perjury.

Lucky Mduduzi Ndubane (27) was sentenced to life imprisonment when magistrate Mr Roelf Smith found him guilty on two counts of rape. On March 3, 2005 Ndubane and another unidentified male took turns in raping their victim, who was only

16 years old at the time, in front of her younger brother.

The brave young girl, who then ran a child-headed household, hunted for five years for the men that had raped her. She finally found Ndubane who was arrested in 2010. She completed matric while she had to testify against him.

She told the court that two men came in the early hours of the morning and gained entry to their house through an open window. She and her brother were held up with a knife and firearm. They dragged them off into the bush and made them lay down next to each other.

They then took turns raping her in front of her little brother.

According to the woman, she searched for five years for her attackers. One day she saw Ndubane and enquired about his whereabouts. She then immediately notified police who arrested him. Finally, after eight years, Smith found her attacker guilty and gave her the justice she had fought so hard for. A 16-year-old girl had lied about her rape experience when she found out she was pregnant and didn’t want her mother to know the truth.

The girl finally admitted to her mom that she had had a relationship with her so-called attacker and that she was never forced to have sex with him.

The mother immediately notified the court. The case was then sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions who then opened a case of perjury against the girl.

Smith then gave the teenager to a five years’ suspended sentence. He told the court that the only reason he had been lenient on her for lying, was because of to her age.
