The police in Burgersfort have arrested a 47-year-old man for sexually assaulting his stepdaughter.

BURGERSFORT – The police in Burgersfort have arrested a 47-year-old man for sexually assaulting his stepdaughter for more than seven years over weekends, two weeks after a serial rapist was stopped in his tracks in the same area. According to Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, the latest suspect allegedly sexually abused the woman several times since she was 17years old. The 23-year-old victim has two children and is allegedly expecting a third child from him, Maluadzi said.

According to him the ordeal was brought to the police’s attention by the victim on last Friday and after the swift reaction of the police they managed to arrest the suspect at his home.He allegedly threatened to kill his stepdaughter and her children if she reported the matter to the police, Mulaudzi said. According to him it is expected that the suspect will face several charges of rape and abuse when he makes his first appearance in the Lydenburg Regional Court. The alleged rapist was supposed to appear in the Lydenburg Regional Court on Monday, but the appearance was postponed while police investigations continued.
