Frozen bacon lands pastor in frying pan

Well-known businessman and ex pastor accused of assaulting his wife

NELSPRUIT – A well-known businessman and former pastor of the African Faith Mission (AFM) Church was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife with frozen bacon.

Mr Tony van Eijk (76) who owns Bushveld and Lakeview Lodge on the Kaapsehoop Road, appeared in the Nelspruit District Court on Tuesday.

Police stated the incident occurred on Saturday when there was an apparent argument between the couple in their kitchen – Van Eijk then allegedly grabbed his wife by the wrists and beat her with the packet of frozen bacon.

However, police confirmed Van Eijk also opened a case of assault against his wife after she laid charges against him. He is set to appear in court again on October 1.
