NELSPRUIT – The trial of the man accused of allegedly trying to inject his ex-girlfriend with his own blood ended today. Judgement is to begin in the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The case was reopened after the state and prosecution had closed their cases. Final arguments were supposed to be heard by the Nelspruit Regional Court two weeks ago, but the state applied for the case to be reopened as new evidence had become available.
Mr Lismore Basson stands accused of allegedly stabbing Ms Iris da Silva with a syringe at her place of work in February. Afterwards, Da Silva said she went to hospital, where a J88 form was completed.
The state applied for permission to submit this as evidence after closing its case. Basson has pleaded not guilty to the assault charge.
