Leboeng Police destroys illegal concoction in Lepelle village
There will be mo stone left unturned
LEBOENG – The local police station’s management led by commander Col Solomon Moholane recently visited the community of Lepelle Village, next to the Strijdom Tunnel.
The visit was after the station realised that there was an alarming increase in criminal activities in the area. Management shared ways and solutions in combating the crime scourge in the estranged village.
Community members were given a chance to express their views about causes of crime in the area. Most agreed that illegal concoctions such as thothotho, ibhantji pikiliyeza, spion were the major causes. According to the station, these substances were abused by most residents because of their affordability. It is believed that a can of spion cost a mere R7.
Moholane warned community members who were manufacturing or producing these mixtures to stop with immediate effect, as they would face the wrath of the law.
Just after the meeting, the police successfully destroyed two breweries that manufactured the illegal beverages. Two suspects were also arrested and charged in terms of the Liquor Act.
Moholane told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that they wanted to get rid of all concoction making materials in the area.
“There will be no stone left unturned and this operation is still continuing,” he said.
Moholane also urged the community to call the sector commander WO Samuel Segabutla and report any criminal activities. He can be contacted on 072-254-0411.
