Two Ghanaian nationals appeare in Court

On Monday morning two Ghanaian nationals, Anthony Kwane (40) and Anthony Begchie (27), appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in counterfeit goods.

TONGA – On Monday morning two Ghanaian nationals, Anthony Kwane (40) and Anthony Begchie (27), appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in counterfeit goods.

Police officers in Schoemansdal were executing patrol duties when they received information about two men who were carrying large bags at Jeppes Reef.

They immediately responded to the matter and spotted the men with 47 bags containing suspected counterfeit running shoes to an estimated street value of R280 000.

SARS custom officials were summoned and they indeed confirmed that the loot was counterfeit. In that regard, the two men were apprehended on the spot.

The suspects were remanded in custody and will appear in court on September 23, pending further investigation.
