BADPLAAS – The woman and her son, who teamed up to kill her husband will appear again in the Eerstehoek Magistrate’s Court in Elukwatini near Badplaas for bail application.
Thembile Hlatshwayo (50) and her son, Charles Mthsali briefly appeared in court last Thursday on charges of murder and were denied bail.
The two are accused of allegedly stabbing Themba Khumalo (50) to death on Saturday, September 14.
Mtshwali, the son, was Khumalo stepchild.
According to provincial spokesman, Col Leonard Hlathi, Hlatshwayo and Mtshwali had an argument with Khumalo, who was a tavern owner.
“An argument broke out between Hlatshwayo and her estranged husband, who was with his friends at the tavern. It led to her chasing him and his friends away, who then went to another nearby tavern. Information at the police’s disposal revealed that Hlatshwayo, her son, and his friends went to assault Khumalo. It is alleged that Mtshwali and his friends went to the tavern where Khumalo was and assaulted and stabbed him with a knife,” said Hlathi.
He said after he (Khumalo) was assaulted, he had to be transported to Embuleni General Hospital for treatment. “Unfortunately, he succumbed to the injuries and passed away the following day. A murder docket was registered and a thorough probe by police led to the pair being apprehended on Tuesday, September 17,” added Hlathi.
They are currently being held at the Badplaas Police Station.
They will reappear again in the same court tomorrow (September 26) for formal bail application.
