Local woman wants to make a difference

BARBERTON – While starting a charity from scratch might seem like an overwhelming task, Zaida Ebrahim is a determined woman.
She recently started Feed a Family in Cathyville and Burgerville.
At present, she knows of 13 families with four babies, who have no income. The children of five families do not attend school.
Most of the circumstances are of such a nature that many of the children start begging for food and money at a young age. “My whole idea is to make up food parcels and hand them out to these families once a month.
“Just taking that little bit of strain off their shoulders, will make a world of difference and give them hope. Being hungry is a very gloomy place to be indeed,” she said.
Zaida, who has been a netball coach at, among others, Barberton High, believes in the upliftment of young people and she also plans to act as a mentor to these kids.
“I want to get them off the streets by offering recreation such as sport.
“At present they don’t have a childhood – a lot of them are on drugs and this is the direct result of their being on the streets. Because their minds are impressionable, this is the time to start.”
“None of the donations will go towards families where substance abuse is present, because I feel that those who have money to waste are not in real need. I am not asking for money.
“The families I’m trying to help are in desperate need of basics like diapers and formula for the infants, food and clothes for the children and parents. I request anyone out there who can assist me, please to open their hearts and contribute.”
