Medical fraternity creates magical moments in White River for a good cause

LMACS combined music, art and compassion at a gala fundraising event aimed at providing children with life-changing healthcare.

The Lowveld Medical Arts and Culture Society (LMACS) recently hosted a gala evening showcasing music and art in aid of children with medical conditions.

The event opened with a canapé competition and an exhibition curated by Dr Linda Kuhn’s Art Lab. This year’s display featured innovative works made from repurposed theatre materials such as cables, alongside macramé, pottery and paintings, all sold in support of the LMACS cause.

Chairperson Dr Attie van Wyk said the organisation, now a registered NPC, had assisted children with a range of medical conditions over the past year, helping ease the burden on families and patients awaiting treatment. He praised donors and volunteers, saying true generosity is shown even when people face their own challenges.

Major support came from Busamed Lowveld Private Hospital, which contributed surgical procedures valued at more than R500 000, alongside extensive pro bono work from specialists. Additional beneficiaries included Huis Betlehem, Betty’s Haven and young soccer players from local communities.

Van Wyk thanked key partners including Sun Pharma, Westvaal Motor Group, Busamed Private Hospital and Cell C, and encouraged ongoing support to sustain LMACS’s medical assistance programmes.

Musical performances by local medical professionals, led by dietician and musical director Reon van Aardt, formed the entertainment programme, featuring medleys from Disney, film soundtracks and classic hits.
