KOMATIPOORT – A man accused of raping his 11-year-old granddaughter, was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment on September 18.
The court ordered that his name be entered into the sexual offenders register as well.
On June 26 last year the accused raped his granddaugher in Orlando.
The victim was staying at her father’s house and the grandfather was visiting them. At about 05:00 her father left for work. He went to the room where the girl was sleeping and raped her.
The victim went back to her mother’s house and told her what had happened. Immediate steps were taken by the mother to protect her child and she reported the incident to the Komatipoort SAPS.
A docket was opened and investigated.
The girl said he had been raping her over a period of a year and threatened to kill her if she told anyone, but she finally worked up the courage to tell someone.
The grandfather was arrested the
next day.
