KOMATIPOORT – The community suffered during the month of September under a spate of thefts of motorcycles, thefts out of as well as of vehicles. Therefore the community’s assistance is requested in an attempt to prevent these crimes from occurring.
The community is requested to implement the following precautionary measures:
• Ensure that no articles are visible in your parked vehicle.
• Don’t drive with your handbag, cellphones or laptop on the passenger seat, it is accessible at a stop street.
• Ensure that all articles are removed from the back of an open vehicle when you leave it unattended in town.
• If possible do not park on the curb in front of residences, it takes a few minutes for a window to be broken and the thief to escape.
• Never leave a firearm in a vehicle, it is an offence in terms of the firearms act.
• Ensure that the vehicle is locked and the alarm system and immobiliser activated when you park.
• If your vehicle is stolen, inform the SAPS immediately if it contained a tracker system.
This will allow them to work with Tracker in the recovery of the vehicle.
Owners of motorcycles and quad bikes are requested to ensure that these are secured at all times and not easily accessible. Information was received that these bikes are being taken across the South-African/Mozambican border as spare parts and reassembled once they reached Mozambique.
The community is requested to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of suspects.
Furthermore, if you are aware of premises or places where persons were seen dismantling any kind of motorcycle, you are urged to inform the SAPS Komatipoort on 013-793-7321 or the station commander,
Lt Col Ntiwane or the Vispol commander,
