Cope donates a soccer kit to a local needy team
We realised that the team was passionate about the beautiful game and chose to help
GA MOKGOTHO- Local football team Mapetla FC was donated a soccer kit by the Congress of the People (COPE)’s Tubatse sub-region on Sunday October 20.
According to the Chairperson of Cope in the Tubatse sub-region Mr Lekhele Moraba, the team previously used a worn out old jersey.
“We realised that the team was passionate about the beautiful game and chose to help. The money used to purchase the jersey is from the party, we don’t use tax payer’s money in enriching ourselves. We care about the needs of the community,” said Moraba.
Moraba added that the party is planning to also provide soccer balls to other teams in the village. “The area is remote, by donating the sporting materials we will be combating the crime scourge, there is no entertainment in this place.”
The party also helped in organising a four team tourney which was contested by two teams from Ga Mokgotho, one from Praktiseer and the other from Alverton. Refreshments and meals were catered to the players and the crowd in attendance.
Chairperson of Cope in Sekhukhune region, Cllr Nnanesi Selahle also used the event to clear the air on the party’s leadership battles that ensued in the past years.
“We had problems with court cases that involved Mbhazima Shilowa and Mosiuoa Lekota, I can proudly say, they are the thing of the past. Everything is hunky-dory now, our leader is Lekota.”
Selahle also urged the youths to register to vote for next year elections in order for their voices to be heard.
