Diphale man caught with dagga

MECKLENBURG – Police arrested a 40-year-old man of Diphale village for allegedly dealing in dagga.The suspect was arrested by the Vispol police while on duty performing operation “Thatha Zonke”.

The arrest came after the police were tipped off by concerned community members.

The man appeared at the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday October 17 and was identified as Mr Amos Phokane. He was released on a warning.

Spokesman for the local police, Const Mmatlou Elias Setati, encouraged the community to report drug dealers to their local police stations. “As the police we are encouraging people to come forth to report these criminal activities, with the help of the community we can win the battle against drugs.”

Meanwhile in Leboeng three men aged 21, 28 and 39, from Ga- Moraba village were arrested after they allegedly robbed a 92-year-old pensioner of R2 000.The suspects forcefully entered the gogo’s house, threatened her and demanded her pension money.

The accused appeared in the Leboeng Magistrate’s Court on October 22 and were remanded in custody for a formal bail application on October 29.

During the arrest the police recovered valuable items such as DVDs, home theatre systems and several other items. Other appliances found were connected to robbery cases in the area. Leboeng police appealed to the community whose families had recently been robbed to come forward and identify their property..
