Young man stabbed in apparent road rage incident

He could taste the blood in his mouth...it sprayed over the side of his brand new bakkie.

NELSPRUIT – A young man in his twenties suffered serious stabwounds after he and a friend were attacked in an apparent roadrage incident near Primecorner on the R40 road. The incident occured late on Thursday evening after the young man, who prefers to remain anonymous, and his friend returned from MacDonalds in Riverside precinct.

“We were driving back towards Nelspruit and passed a red golf on the way. There were three occupants in the vehicle. The driver of the golf failed to dim his lights as we passed and so I decided to flash my lights at him in return,” explain the victim. “I slowed down and the driver of the golf and myself had a bit of an exchange of words before I sped up and drove away. At the traffic intersection opposite Tiger Wheel and Tyre the golf suddenly drove in front of us and stopped dead in front of my bakkie. The driver got out the car and approached my driver side door very aggressively.”

The victim said that he reacted to the aggressive driver by climbing out of his bakkie and punching him. “I was merely reacting to his aggressive behaviour and I thought my best chance was to defend myself and my friend before he had a turn to attack us.”

The driver, after being punched, returned to his vehicle and allegedly removed an object that looked to be a knife from under his seat before returning to attack the victim. During the ensuing fight, the young man suffered multiple defensive wounds on his forearms and hands from the balde of the knife. He was also stabbed in the collar bone and through his mouth.

“I wasn’t even aware that he had a knife until I felt the blade enter my collarbone. My friend climbed out of the bakkie at this stage and tried to get the passenger of the golf away from me.” At this point the victim retreated and his assailants rushed to their car and sped off. “We drove straight to Mediclinic Nelspruit from where my friend called Bossies Community Justice to find help in tracing my attackers.”

The victim has since received multiple sticthes to his wounds and will be receiving treatment for the wound in his mouth. At the time of going to print Fanus Terblanche of Bossies Community Justice stated that they are searching for a red citi golf MKI in the area.
