Flying squad nab dagga merchant

The suspect bought the drugs in Swaziland and was transporting them back to Gauteng.

NELSPRUIT – A man from Gauteng was arrested for possession of dagga with an estimated street value of more than R 40 000 on Thursday afternoon. The suspect allegedly bought the dagga in Swaziland, brought the drugs into South Africa and stashed them in Matsulu. It is believed that he collected the dagga from Matsulu a few days later and intended to transport it back to Gauteng.

Following a tip off by members of the public, the White River Flying Squad reacted on Thursday morning and followed the suspect from Matsulu to the vicinity of Kanyamazane where they arrested him and seized a number of large black bags stuffed to the brim with marijuana. Some of the bags were on the backseat of the suspect’s vehicle while the rest was stuffed into the trunk.

The suspect was transported from Nelspruit police station to Kanyamazane where he will be tried in court.

“This arrest would not have been made possible were it not for the involvement of the community and the quick reaction of WO Thompson Choenyane, Constables Pressure Nkosi, Lucky Mahlangu and Stoney Sigage of White River Flying Squad,” said Captain Dawie Pretorius.
