MALALANE – Despite efforts by community members and the municipality to reduce the number of trucks parking in town at night, they continue to do so and cause damage to roads and property, street signage and electricity meter boxes.
Residents on Buffel St recently thought lighting had struck their house when an electricity box sparked after being knocked down by a truck attempting to make a U-turn.
Spokesman for the Nkomazi municipality, Mr Cyril Ripinga, said, “We replace the boxes only to have them knocked down again the following week, or day. We have had to construct some sort of protective barricade around them. Our local law-enforcement agencies are also assisting by monitoring trucks parking in and around the town at night.”
