Name change verdict not out

Some media outlets reported yesterday that the verdict in the case of the city’s name change has been announced.

NELSPRUIT – The verdict in the case for the city’s name has not been given yet. This is according to Mr Johan du Preez, the lawyer acting on behalf on the Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism (KLCBT).

Some media outlets reported yesterday that the verdict in the case of the city’s name change has been announced. However, Du Preez said he found it strange. “We have no knowledge of this,” he told Lowvelder.

The lawyer explained that the correct procedure would be for the judge to call the advocates who appeared in the case and read them the verdict in court. This, Du Preez said, has not happened.

The KLCBT took the matter of Nelspruit’s name change to the Pretoria High Court. The case was concluded two weeks ago.
