Uplands quartet create rhino art

Four young girls of Uplands College came up with an amazing creative idea for their art project to show their concern for the endangered species, the rhino.

WHITE RIVER – Four young girls of Uplands College came up with an amazing creative idea for their art project to show their concern for the endangered species, the rhino.

Angela Sheard, Lucy van der Meulen, Izabella Carvalho and Catherine More used plastic bottle tops to design the figure of a rhino on a black board.

“The idea of creating a rhino board happened in discussion with the architect of the art project, Rose Hall.

One of the projects done by the Grade 5 class at Uplands is was on, Endangered Animals. Looking at all the plastic bottle tops, the girls decided to use the black and red tops as this colour has always been the colour to depict danger,” said Marketing Manager Bev du Preez.

Looking for enough black tops as a fitting contrast to the red was a problem until the girls found the Coke zero tops. There was an amazing result in the end. “Two of the families who have rhinos on their game farms delivered red plastic rhino horns at the school one day, which we decided to use when taking the photo to show concern for this best-loved Big 5 species of Mpumalanga,” du Preez continued.
