More than 15 000 learners streamed to Penreach’s annual STEAM Festival, held from August 3 to 7 in partnership with the Mpumalanga Department of Education to celebrate National Science Month.

Diverse career fields on display

With 42 exhibits, including representatives from Selati, the SAPS Forensic Unit and the Nelspruit Aero Club, high school learners were introduced to a world of diverse careers, showing them that there is something out there for everyone.

Through live demonstrations, detailed presentations and fun activities, learners’ interests were piqued and exhibitors were busy throughout the day.

Connecting science to real life

Although there were exhibits from various fields, a huge emphasis was placed on science.

“I’ve always enjoyed science at school, but today showed me how it connects to real careers and everyday life. Seeing the experiments and interacting with different exhibitors made learning more exciting and gave me confidence to keep exploring subjects that could shape my future,” said Chantell Ngobeni, a Grade 11 learner at Comprehensive High School.

Penreach gave special thanks to everyone who made the week possible, especially the Department of Education and its ambassadors who attended the day.
