Guard catches battery theives in the act

Suspects apprehended after attempting to steal a show truck's battery at Westvaal Delta

NELSPRUIT – Two suspects were caught in the act trying to steal a battery out of a show truck yesterday (Thursday) at about 06:00.

A Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit official passing Westvaal Delta in a mini-bus taxi, saw the two suspects in action.

According to the dealer principal of Westvaal Delta Mr Kobus van Zyl, the official alerted the control room. “He was on duty during the night and had just knocked off when he saw the parked car next to Delta and the criminals.”

Hi-Tech activated two vehicles and a high-speed chase ensued right through to Tekwane. While this was happening, one of them tried to escape by attempting to hijack another vehicle but failed to do so.

“Hi-Tech then discovered that they were actually already wanted in other cases which were being investigated.” Van Zyl stressed that this was not the first time criminals had attempted to steal batteries out of their trucks. “They attempted to do so about six months ago, but they also failed to get it right and were arrested.”
