Almost R100k from locals for SPCA

Their target of R50 000 has been exceeded and the Lowveld SPCA is grateful for the generous contributions made by local businesses and individuals.

NELSPRUIT – Since the media reports on the financial troubles of the Lowveld SPCA due to non-payment of a R400 000 account by the Mbombela council, locals have donated generously to reach a target of R50 000 to see this organisation through the month. The total currently stands on R98 293, exceeding the target and well on its way to ensuring sufficient funds to cover all the expenses over the holiday season and not just the essentials.

Chairman of the committee that runs the organisation, Mr Louie Amorim, urges the public to take part in its Pledge a Paw campaign to continue in this fundraising spirit. By signing a debit order for R50 or R100, the organisation is ensured of a reliable income to purchase food and to pay salaries and veterinary bills. Simply SMS your name and contact number to 082-589-1141 to participate. Donations are tax deductable.

In response to queries about the amount that has been outstanding since July, Mbombela spokesman, Mr Joseph Ngala, responded on Monday that the due payment for the SPCA is being processed by council and the matter would be settled in the next few days. Ngala further confirmed there was no intention on Mbombela’s part to have another service provider perform the function as animal pound in place of the Lowveld SPCA.

Message from the staff of Lowveld SPCA:

We want to thank every single person that has donated, supported us and who motivates us. Every animal shelter deserves a round of applause for all their wonderful work!  It is not easy to be in the line of animal rescue but it is so rewarding!
