The passing of Nelson Mandela

A poem for Madiba

Geoffrey Kennell writes:

The Passing of Nelson Mandela

I drew the curtains and darkened the room,

As a sign of respect to the Prophets of Doom,

We knew it would happen and the world held its breath,

As Nelson Mandela succumbed to his death.

The sun failed to shine on that dreadful dark day,

And the rain wept with sorrow and utter dismay,

Gone was our Statesman, our Hero, our friend,

The world as we knew it had come to an end…..

The news spread like wild fire, that Mandela had died,

The South African statesman on whom all had relied.

With hearts full of sorrow, the world bowed its head,

Our hope for tomorrow, Nelson Mandela was dead.

No longer shall we see that wise smiling face,

Nor the arm that has waived to an entire human race.

Father of our Nation, we bid you good-bye,

Rest peacefully with God and His angels on high.
