MAPUTO – A South African woman has been arrested for trying to smuggle cocaine. AIM reported that Mozambican police announced on Monday that a South African woman was arrested at Maputo International Airport last week, and was found to be carrying 3.6 kilos of cocaine in her luggage.
The woman had started her journey in Brazil. Maputo City police spokesperson Orlando Mudumane told reporters that the final destination of the 32 year old woman (whose name was not revealed) was Johannesburg.
Mudumane said the drug has been sent to the central laboratory of the Criminal Investigation Police (PIC), and the detainee will await her trial at the Ndlavela women’s jail.
AIM also reported that the police prevented 64 people from entering the country illegally, including 26 Ethiopians, and 20 Bangladeshis.
Another South African woman, Ms Promise Mpala (26) was also arrested on Christmas eve at the same airport for possession of drugs, on her way from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
