Man discharged shortly after buffalo attack

A man who sustained serious injuries during a buffalo attack near Ulusaba Game Reserve on December 21, was discharged from hospital soon after.

HAZYVIEW – A man who sustained serious injuries during a buffalo attack near Ulusaba Game Reserve on December 21, was discharged from hospital soon after.

At around 09:30, Mpumalanga Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were informed that a man in his 40s had been attacked by a buffalo near the reserve. Mr Thaimon Jack Sibuyi is confirmed to be a animal tracker at Ulusaba and was walking with tourists when the incident occurred. He sustained injuries on his thigh, back, abdomen and face when the old bull attacked him.

The EMS helicopter was dispatched to the scene and the man was found with serious injuries. Medical personnel of Sabi Sands were already on the scene, trying to stabilise Sibuyi.

Paramedics had to apply advanced medical treatment to stabilise him. He was airlifted to Mediclinic Nelspruit, where he was attended to in high care. According to Mr Steve Daly from EMS, the patient was stable before take-off.

Ms Berdine Malan, client service officer at Mediclinic confirmed that Sibuyi’s condition was stable and that he was treated in a general ward.
