Hijacked Toyota Hilux recovered, kidnapped driver rescued in Kabokweni

The police successfully recovered a hijacked Toyota Hilux and rescued a driver who was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint during an incident in Kabokweni.

Mpumalanga police have recovered a white Toyota Hilux that was hijacked in Kabokweni and safely rescued the driver who was allegedly kidnapped during the incident on June 23.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe, members of the Provincial Anti-Hijacking Task Team in Ehlanzeni received information while on standby regarding a carjacking incident that had occurred in the Kabokweni area.

“The information was immediately operationalised in collaboration with the vehicle tracking company, and tracking coordinates were shared with members involved. A tracing and tracking operation was conducted, resulting in the successful recovery of the hijacked Toyota Hilux in the Pienaar area, where it had been abandoned in nearby bushes,” said Nonyane-Mpe.

She added that further investigations led police to the Thekwane North area, where the victim was located.

“The victim, who had been kidnapped at gunpoint, was safely rescued and subsequently taken to Kabokweni Police Station, where a case was opened for further investigation,” she said.

Police have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the hijacking and kidnapping. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Authorities have appealed to members of the public who may have information that could assist with the investigation to come forward.
