LYDENBURG – An armed robbery occurred on Monday night during which a shop owner was shot and critically injured.
Mr Liyaquate Shay (46), owner of Alameens halaal takeaway was apparently approached by two young males who demanded money from him.
According to Capt Mashabela, communications officer at Lydenburg SAPS, one of the suspects was carrying a firearm. “The robbers demanded money from Shay. He apparently refused to give them the cash after which he was shot.”
Mashabela said the suspects fled the scene right after the incident and were still at large. “We request anyone with any information to please contact the Lydenburg SAPS.”
According to Mr Deon Broekman of N3 Rapid Response, Shay was shot in the stomach. “He was treated on the scene and transported to Mediclinic Nelspruit. He is stable but in a critical condition.”
