BOTHASHOEK – The scorching heat experienced in various parts of the Sekhukhune District, did not deter Tubatse police to motivate and encourage Mmiditsi Secondary School learners to focus on their studies.
The police visited the school as part of their Back to School campaign aimed at combating drug and substance abuse among learners.
The SAPS members partnered with the department of social development and the community police forum to ensure that local schools are drug-free.
Const Nicodemus Letsoalo warned the learners not to carry weapons and armaments to school.
“We are asking you in a friendly manner not to indulge in criminal activities. Next time we won’t be smiling as we will apprehend those who are causing chaos. If it happens that you are caught with drugs, weapons or other illegal materials, you will be arrested,” Const Nicodemus Letsoalo warned.
Letsoalo added that the SAPS will visit the schools to conduct searches.
“If learners are still bringing cellphones to school they will be confiscated, we don’t know when they will get them back,” he warned. Tubatse police spokesman, Mr Sello Movundlela confirmed to Steelburger/Lydenburg News that the campaign will be extended to Burgersfort.
Meanwhile police are still searching for Mr Shackson Moshalagae Molangoana of Riba Cross village in connection with a murder that occurred in December.
They request the community to assist with information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect. It is alleged that the suspect might be in Riba Cross or Ga Riba villages.
Anyone with information can contact Capt Freddie Mogane on 076-796-7033.
