LYDENBURG – Two suspects were recently killed during a housebreaking in Extension 2.

According to one of the family members who wishes to remain anonymous, the they gained entrance through a bathroom window.

“I woke up with two guys pointing guns at me. They had balaclavas over their faces. I was tied up after which they proceeded to my parents’ bedroom.” He said his younger brother was alerted by the commotion and told the wife to lock their bedroom door.

His brother apparently sneaked to the bedroom with his firearm and shot two of the robbers before getting into a fight with the third. During the shoot-out his mother was apparently shot in the leg by one of the men.

Two others managed to escape. “My brother chased after them but realised he was out of bullets and had to stop.”

Capt Gerald Sedibe confirmed the incident. “It is alleged that four men wearing balaclavas entered the household at 01:50 on Monday. They held one occupant at gunpoint, demanding money.”

Sedibe said the son of the victim heard the noise in his mother’s room and went to investigate. “A shoot-out took place, in which two suspects were killed. One died inside the house and the other on the way to the hospital.”

He said no arrests had yet been made. Sedibe urged anyone with information to contact Lydenburg SAPS on 013-235-1311.

Cases of murder and attempted murder have been opened.
