POLOKWANE – Police minister and ANC national executive committee member, Mr Nathi Mthethwa, has urged the party’s leaders in the province to put the interest of the alliance and citizens first when executing their mandate.
He was speaking on behalf of the president Mr Jacob Zuma at the opening of the eighth Limpopo provincial elective conference Saturday February 15 in Turfloop.
Mthethwa reminded the delegates that millions of South Africans, especially in Limpopo, always voted for the ANC and they deserved effective service delivery.
Mthethwa says, “We must ask ourselves whether we understand what the power that people give us all the time means, for people of Limpopo. Do we understand the attachment to the people of our district who want to see water, electricity, roads and bridges which are not bogus ones that are supposed to be built, but are not, and money eaten no real bridges and real roads?”
The minister has also called on party members, especially those who were elected during the conference, to fight against institutionalised factionalism and discriminating against other party members.
He added that ANC members always had to uphold what he called “revolutionary unity” and to carry out the policies and instructions of the party.
The top five members of ANC Limpopo executives who were elected at the conference are premier Mr Stanley Mathabatha as new party chairman, Mr Jerry Ndou as his deputy and Mr Knocks Seabi as secretary, Mr Makoma Makhurupetjie as his deputy while (Mr/Ms)Thembi Nwenamutswu is the new treasurer.
MEC for Public Works, Dickson Masemola and Soviet Lekganyane withdrew their nominations.
Some party members seemed unhappy about Seabi being elected, Seabi is the CEO of Limpopo Parks and Tourism Agency, and was suspended from the institution last year. His case which is in relations with mismanagement of funds has not yet been finalized.
