Aunt found guilty of gruesome abuse

The child was 10 years old when her aunt started torturing her physically and emotionally

NELSPRUIT –A real life Cinderella horror story sort of had a fairytale ending when an aunt who had sadistically tortured her niece and treated her as a slave, was finally found guilty.

The aunt (39) appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Tuesday on a charge of child abuse and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The child was 10 years old when her aunt started torturing her physically and emotionally. The abuse started in 2009 and only ended in December 2011 when community members of the Mzolozi Trust area finally reported the abuse to the police.

Magistrate Mr Andre Geldenhuys  found her guilty on both charges and postponed the sentencing for a pre-sentencing report.

The medical report submitted , showed that there were injuries to every single part of her body.

Geldenhuys postponed the sentencing for April 25. The aunt remained in custody.
