LYDENBURG – Swift police reaction led to the confiscation of 30kg of dagga in Mashishing.
According to Teddy Ngwane police received information from informers that there was a suspect in possession of the drug in Mashishing. “We went to the house with a search warrant and identified ourselves as police officers and asked permission to search the property. He agreed to it.”
They inspected the house and the rest of the surroundings. “We found several bags of dagga on the roof.”
According to Ngwane the suspect denied that it was his and that someone from Nelspruit apparently gave it to him. The street value is in the region of R30 000.
Communications officer of Lydenburg SAPS, Capt Mabokalate Mashabela, said the confiscated drug would be disposed of.
“Dagga is a huge problem in this town. We urge the community to inform the police of any information regarding its manufacture or possession.”
The suspect appeared in the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court last Friday on charges of possession of drugs. The haul is said to come from Mozambique.
