Municipality leaves injured Kudu to suffer
Residents from this community have been outraged and shocked by the municipality’s lack of urgency to respond to an injured kudu.
MARLOTH PARK – Residents from this community have been outraged and shocked by the municipality’s lack of urgency to respond to an injured kudu.
A female antelope was spotted with a snare around her neck on March 6 but is yet to receive treatment.
Local residents said that rangers applied for veterinary assistance on March 25 at municipal level but this has yet to be processed. They have not yet received the go-ahead.
In that time the kudu was left with the snare around its neck to suffer immense pain and distress. This endangered its life as its wounds could become infected.
A resident who wishes to remain anonymous, and is only referred to as Sara said, “The rangers still await a response from the municipality. The vet explained that he would only tend to the kudu if he was promised payment because of an outstanding payment from the municipality for assistance last year. I then offered to pay him to assist the injured animal. He arrived on Friday April 4, but was unable to dart the cow. He said he would return the next day, but did not.” Sara informed Corridor Gazette on Monday April 7 he was on his way and has set aside the entire day to trace the antelope.
Spokesman for the municipality, Mr Cyril Ripinga, was unavailable for comment at the time of going to print.
