BURGERSFORT- The African National Congress Youth League (Ancyl) in Sekhukhune region bombarded the streets of the town, reminding shoppers to vote for their party in the elections.
The walk-about campaign was organised at the Twin City complex on Monday April 14.
Donning their yellow T-shirts, the youth partnered with local councillors, which included Ms Monicah Thobejane, Ms Rina Makhubedu, Ms Mary Moropane and Ms Dorah Mpheti.
According to the secretary of the youth league in Tubatse region, Mr Eddie Maile, their main objective was to remind the youth about the importance of voting.
“Since the ANC came into power, the lives of locals have changed immensely. Gone are the days when learners paid for school tuition fees and were severely punished by teachers,” Maile said. He reiterated that the school feeding schemes, child support grants and RDPs were part of his party’s success.
He attacked opposition parties, labelling the Democratic Alliance (DA) a Mickey Mouse party, which wants to take the country back to apartheid.
“There is also a rookie party that was formed some months ago, by the frustrated hooligan Julius “Woodwork” Malema. Don’t vote for that criminal, he will take our country to the state of Zimbabwe,” he said.
Chairman of the sub-region Mr Jeffrey Mashoeu shared Maile’s sentiments, adding that the youth must not vote for a party that does not have clear policies.
“All the Economic Freedom Fighters want is to grab everything it can lay its hands on. As for the Pan African Congress, they failed to manage their few members. How can they rule this country?” Mashoeu asked.
The youth league plans to continue with its campaign of recruiting voters till election day, May 7.
