When dancing becomes a lifestyle

Tanya Van Tonder's love and passion for dancing is written all over her face when she's teaching.

NELSPRUIT- To some dancing is just something they do every Friday night at a club or when they attend a wedding, but for Tanya Van Tonder it is her whole life. It’s what she eats, breathes and sleeps.

Tanya, of Rhythm Image Dance Studio, has been dancing for over 26 years and teaches 26 styles at her studio in the Belladonna Centre. From solo latin to hip hop, the only one they don’t cover is, unfortunately, “sokkie”.

“We have a variety of people who join the classes, from five-year-olds to adults.” Tanya teaches them all styles, so that they can do anything and everything when competing. She often travels to Johannesburg with her top students to compete in various competitions, and the next one will be in May. “The more they compete the better they get and I love that,” she said.

There are also studios in White River, Hazyview and Uplands College, and they try to participate in as many charity projects as possible. “Adopt a dancer” is one of them – they visit an orphanage and teach the underprivileged to dance. They also sponsor the show for the Guardian Angels’ charity event at the end of October.

She handles her students with love and patience, and her love of dancing is written all over her face while she teaches.

Tanya does wedding choreography, couples dancing and also solo. If your feet itch, don’t hesitate to visit the Rhythm Image Dance Studio.
