Drowned man’s body retrieved from Olifants
Mecklenburg police have warned local residents and swimmers who often utilise the Olifants River, commonly known as Lepelle for relaxation and those who want to perfect their swimming prowess to do so under the supervision of divers and lifesavers.

This comes after a 33-year-old man, Mr Peter Theron of Polokwane drowned in the river on April 18.
According to the police spokesperson, Const Elias Setat,i the deceased’s body was retrieved from the river on the afternoon of April 18 after he went missing.
“He might have been trapped in the river, as the Olifants River is always overflowing; we are still trying to determine what had transpired that day,” Setati told Steelburger/Lydenburg News. He also thanked the divers and rescue team for their response to the case.
