Teenage girl falls down cliff

NELSPRUIT – A teenage girl miraculously survived when she fell off a mountain this morning. Ms Lize Coetzee (18) fell off a cliff near the Mabalel Uitkyk area.

Hi Tech Medical Services Mr Jacques Ainslie said their control room got a call at around 07:25 that a young woman had fallen from a cliff.

“ A group of friends camped out on the top of the cliff, to take in the beautiful area and escarpment. Apparently in the early morning hours she went for a walk, it was heavily misted and we are under the impression that she misplaced her footing and slipped. “

He said she fell approximately 40 meters and came to a standstill at the bottom of the cliff.

According to Ainslie, Hi Tech medical Services immediately activated all the Emergency Services, ER24, Netcare 911, Fire dept Rescue and ORRU.

“ All the services came together at the scene, which we needed 4×4 to access. The rescue personnel immediately went to work to get an evacuation route available while Netcare 911 and ER24 personnel went to stabilise the patient.”

He said she was very critical but stable.

“We extricated the patient and EMS helicopter was on route to take her to Medi-Clinic Nelspruit.”

The whole operation took about three hours to get her to the top and to load her in the air ambulance.

“ We at Hi Tech wish her a speedily recovery and will pray for her family and herself that she recovers fast and without any serious permanent injuries. I want to take this opportunity and give a special thanks to all the rescuers that made this rescue such an success, thanks to ER24, Netcare 911, Fire Department, ORRU and the EMS Helicopter team.”
