In a press statement issued by Barberton’s DA Councillors, Philip Minnaar, Meiston Mnisi and Elsabe Jacobs, the DA said they had concluded an extremely successful campaign. They said the DA had never been more than ready for what will go down as an historic election in South Africa’s history.
“Thousands of Umjindi residents are looking forward to voting for the DA for the first time and they are united behind the DA, as their only hope for positive change. We need to develop an economy that creates jobs, improves education, provides decent healthcare and delivers services. Social grants need to be administered effectively and corruption-free,” said Minnaar.
They believe that the ANC has become arrogant and its leaders believe that voters will continue to vote for them, regardless of corruption and ever-increasing poverty.
For 63 days of their election campaign, DA provincial leaders criss-crossed Mpumalanga, hosting public meetings in nearly every community and introducing candidates for the provincial legislature and national assembly.
“We brought the DA’s vision of hope and change to the people. The Umjindi residents realise that the ANC is no longer the same and demand change and therefore they unite behind the DA, the only party that can bring about positive change,” said Minnaar.
Mnisi, Minnaar and Jacobs said that the DA’s difference would help people to start and develop businesses and create more jobs.
“Under a DA government politicians will serve the people and not be like the present, under the ANC, where the people serve the politicians,” they said.
Although this election is for national and provincial government, they believe this is the beginning of change in the run-up to the national government elections two years from now.
“We can stop local corruption and ensure proper service delivery, restore Umjindi Municipality to its former glory, pothole-free, no sewerage in the streets, no luxury and unnecessary vehicles and overseas trips for politicians, proper maintenance of municipal assets and an open-opportunity society for everyone, where all residents will be treated fairly and equally.”
